Take a Girl's Trip to Lake Placid, NY
Whether you’re celebrating a bachelorette weekend, a birthday bash, or just a get-out-of-town getaway, take a girl’s trip to Lake Placid, NY!
Lake Placid might not be the bachelorette Mecca that say, Nashville is, but it is a popular destination if you’re looking for something a little more low-key. Here are some of our recommendations on things to do with your best gal pals.
The Studio Upstate
If you want to get a little movement in, book a class at The Studio Upstate. You can book one of their scheduled classes or rent the space for a private session.
Take the short walk down Main Street from the Golden Arrow. When you get to the blue building where The Studio is located, you’ll head upstairs and enter the first door where you are greeted by a warm and welcoming space.
The room is cozy and spacious at the same time, with hardwood floors and mirrors throughout the space. The Studio offers a number of classes including Pole, which you’ll see towards the front of the studio, Pilates reformers at the back, and aerial hammocks secured to the ceiling above.
I have personally attended a Pilates Mat class. The class I attended was a full house with 14 people. We were a little close but still had room to move. I will say I am not an avid Pilates person. My workouts of choice tend to be weight-focused or of the HIIT variety. I do enjoy the occasional Pilates class as a good active recovery day though.
I attended one of Zoe’s Friday morning classes. She’s the owner of the Studio (and a Golden Arrow family member!) She makes everyone feel welcome, regardless of how well she may know you or what your skill level is. The class takes you through the principles of Pilates (like breath and control). She also sets the mood and gets you in the right headspace with dim lighting and a curated playlist.
I enjoyed the class and think it would be fun to do with a group of girlfriends. If you’re in Lake Placid for a bachelorette weekend, I would recommend renting the space for a fun personalized experience!
Pure Placid
If you’re looking for something fun to do that also leaves you with a keepsake, book a candle making session at Pure Placid. They offer two different types of classes; a DIY where you read through a book or an instructor-led class.
I’ve taken the instructor-led class which is nice because it allows you to get more candle knowledge and ask questions.
The instructor tells you what makes Pure Placid candles different from some of the big-name sellers like being made from Soy wax. Soy wax is non-toxic and makes for a cleaner burning candle. You also learn the proper maintenance for burning and extinguishing candles.
You’ll select one of nine scents for your candle. Each scent has a special meaning to the owner and is connected to the Adirondacks. Each scent also has its notes and benefits listed on a card. This is super helpful if you’re like me and never regained your sense of smell after COVID! After picking your scent, you get to pick the container you want to make your candle in. They have a good selection of tin and glass vessels. Candles take 3 hours to set, so you can walk around and explore while you’re waiting, or they do ship for $12/candle.
If you want to take your class up a step, they also offer a Sunday morning option that features mimosas and a Saturday evening Cocktails and Candles Class.
The Peaks Paintbar
The Peaks Paintbar is a paint and sip venue located on Main Street. They offer a nightly event Tuesday – Saturday from 7-9:30pm. They also have afternoon events on Saturdays and Sundays. Events are easy to sign up for online, and each day has the painting you will be doing shown so you can pick based on what you’d like to create.
Outside food and drinks are not allowed, but they have a variety of treats and a selection of beer, ciders, & wine. You also receive one complimentary drink with your event purchase.
You are provided with everything you need to create your artwork, and the friendly instructor provides a step-by-step guide to walk you through the painting process. No experience is necessary to create a beautiful piece of art!
Beers & Bubbly
There’s no shortage of great places to grab a drink in Lake Placid. While there’s no right or wrong place to start or end, here’s our suggestion of how to experience multiple spots (all within walking distance of the Golden Arrow so no need to find a DD).
Start at the Lake Placid Pub & Brewery where they have 12 taps -10 house beers, a house hard seltzer, and champagne. Hang out inside and watch whatever sporting event or game happens to be on, or if the weather is nice, head outside and sit in the Adirondack Chairs or play a game of cornhole.
Next, walk your way up Main Street and grab a bite to eat at Generations Tap and Grill before heading across the street to Zig Zags Pub where you can grab a drink and play a round of pool or darts.
Next, head next door to the Cloudsplitter Rooftop Bar, the newest bar in Lake Placid where you can take in the views while you sip on a crafty cocktail before making your way down to the next bar, Great Adirondack Brewing Company. Great Adirondack Brewing offers a number of house beers as well as the best whiskey menu in town.
Last up for bars is Top of the Park. Sit outside and take in the lake views while enjoying a classic cocktail. They also have specialty cocktails featuring CBD, Kombucha, or beer. Can’t make up your mind on what you want? Sit at the bar if there’s an open spot and ask to play “The Game.”
Finish your night at Roomers Nightclub for a dance party and nightly drink specials.
Take a Hike
If you’re venturing to the Adirondacks, a walk in the woods or a hike seems like a must-do. There are endless hikes, ranging in skill level and difficulty, as well as nature trails you can tackle.
If you’re looking for a simple nature trail, some of our favorites include Heaven Hill, Henry’s Woods, and the Peninsula Trail. All three are just a short drive from the Golden Arrow and offer great views. Read our Nature Walk Blog for more information on all three.
If you want an easy hike, some of our favorites include Indian Head, Catamount, and Mt Jo. Check out our Hiking Blogs for more information on short and long hikes worth exploring.
