Solar Eclipse
April 8, 2024
It’s September 21 and we’re just 200 days away from a Total Solar Eclipse! Lake Placid will be one of the best locations in the northeast to view this rare event on April 8, 2024. Total Solar Eclipses happen over the same place on Earth about once every 400 years! Keep reading to learn more about the eclipse and how the Golden Arrow plans to celebrate.
What is a Solar Eclipse?
A Total Solar Eclipse occurs when the new Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth and totally blocks out the Sun.

Cosmic Phenomena
With the sky darkened, you may be able to see some stars and planets, depending on viewing conditions at your location. Bright Venus may appear to the Sun’s right or bottom-right, with dimmer Jupiter at the Sun’s left or upper-left.
Also, don’t forget the Moon! Just prior to totality, the last rays of sunlight will slip through lunar valleys on the Moon’s limb, creating a string of pearly dots known as Baily’s Beads. You can watch through a solar filter or eclipse glasses as the beads slowly wink out, until the last one shines bright, giving the impending eclipse the look of a diamond ring. The phenomenon will appear in reverse at the end of totality.

#GoldGoesDark
Lake Placid is in the path of totality, which means it will be one of the best places to see the Solar Eclipse. This will be your last chance to see a Total Solar Eclipse in the US for 20 years! The next will be August 23, 2044, with Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota being the only three states in the path of totality.
We recommend booking your stay ASAP as rooms are selling out quickly. People travel all over the country to see these rare events and you don’t want to miss out. We also suggest you include April 8th in your booking window; you don’t want to fight the crowds trying to leave once the show is over.

So what are we doing to celebrate? All Golden Arrow guests will receive special eclipse glasses and an eclipse-themed welcome bag (think Moonpies and Sun chips!)
We will have an after-eclipse party in the Four Seasons Room, and weather permitting, will extend it to our private beach. Food, drinks, and entertainment will be provided. You can view our Solar Eclipse offers page for up-to-date information on what will be going on.
